Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild Newsletter - December 2019
President's Message
I saw this post on Facebook this morning.
Paulette and I laughed because of all the times we've been up late or up early because creativity knows no regular hours. The other morning we hopped out of bed and hit the sewing machines and an hour later when she asked me what time it was I answered "5:30".
I hope that in the holiday season you all get the fabric and the inspiration that you want and deserve. Hope to see you all at our December meeting. -- Frank McCarron. President |
December Meeting
Our December meeting is on Wednesday, December 11. This is our annual Christmas holiday potluck dinner meeting. It's a fun, relaxed evening. There's a lot to bring along to this meeting! Please bring:
Note that the Aztec Jewel Block-of-the-Month is due in January (since there are only 2 weeks between the November and December meetings.) The Blue Block Party challenge blocks will also be due at the January meeting. |
Inclement Weather Meeting Cancellation
If a guild meeting is cancelled due to inclement winter weather, guild members will be notified on the day of the meeting by email. Also,a cancellation notice will appear on the web site Home page by 12:30 PM. If you are unable to access email or the internet you can phone a friend who does have access, or Janet Brownlee at 613- 623-7948 to determine if the meeting is cancelled. |
Library News
The race is on!! I don’t know if your sewing room is busy, but mine looks like a Christmas explosion! My plans for gifts and projects may just have exceeded my capabilities to complete them. Time is short! After Christmas there’ll be time for rest and, perhaps, travel, so we’ve chosen a book that will help you sew along the way, even on the beach! “QUILTING ON THE GO” by Jessica Alexandrakis is packed with tips and instructions on English paper piecing with projects large and small. Come and take a look! Our “Guess the Pages” book for this month is all about strip piecing and different ways to use them in straight blocks or curvy pieces. Take a guess and add this to your own library! Lucy and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest Year ahead full of great sewing and quilting! -- Nancy and Lucy |
Charity
At our November meeting Katrina Kahn showed a fun finished quilt that will be given to a couch-surfing homeless young person in Arnprior. Thank you Katrina for volunteering to quilt and bind this quilt and doing such a beautiful job!
Thank you to those who have made one or more of the 43 premie quilts that have been collected this fall. These little quilts will be donated to babies in the Rich Little Special Care Nursery at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital. They are a lot of fun to make, and a great way to use up scraps and are truly appreciated. Several guild members have been making premie quilts with the block-of-the-month pattern. See the Charity page for more information about making premie quilts.
