English Paper Piecing with Brenda Payer

Description:
English Paper Piecing (EPP) is a precision patchwork which dates back to the early 1800's. We will be working with hexagon templates to create a Grandmother’s Flower Garden block. Fabric pieces will be basted onto paper hexagon templates and then sewn together to create a shape. We will go over how this shape can be added on to or used separately in a quilt project.
Requirements:
Brenda is a long-time guild member and an award-winning quilter. Her accomplishments include first prize at the 2023 Canadian Quilters' Association (CQA) national juried show in the Traditional - Wall and Bed Quilt category for her quilt "Perfectly Imperfect" which featured hand quilting and hand applique; and second place in the 2017 Northcott Sesquicentennial Quilt of Valour™ challenge for a modern quilt called “Thank you for your Service”, which she designed and pieced.

- Fabric scraps, at least 3 inch square
- Basic sewing kit including spool of thread for basting
- 1 fat quarter background fabric - solid colour preferable
- A workshop kit will be available at Sew Inspired. The cost of the kit to be confirmed closer to workshop date but will be no more than $15

Tote-me-Tote Bag

This diamond quilted front and back bag is 14" x 12", sides 12" x 7" inches, with an interior pocket for your water bottle as well as another pocket to hold your pen and mobile phone or whatever. The first class will teach making the diamond shape pattern for the outside and a discussion of the quilting, which you will finish at home. Come back to the second class to assemble your bag.
Guild member Elaine Edwards is teaching this workshop.
A supply list will be given in plenty of time once we have sufficient registration for the class to go.

Mini Maker Case

Guild member Johanne Vajda offered this workshop. This little case is perfect for storing and transporting your travel iron, and is very versatile for other uses. If you have taken a workshop with Johanne in the past, you won’t want to miss this one. Your travel iron will also be happy to have a nice comfy place to call home!

Our December 2021 speaker, Melissa Marginet offered us a chance at a private workshop with her. You will be guided through quilting a small quilt with your walking foot. You will learn the basic skills of walking foot quilting and plenty of tips and tricks to help you along the way to quilting all your own quilts on your home sewing machine.

The workshop will cover four DD9P block variations - Traditional, Transitioning to Modern, Modern, and Improv.
Participants will learn how to construct the block and receive useful tips.
These 15" square sample blocks will be suitable for use as a cushion cover.
