Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild Newsletter - December 2023
President's Message
Hi everyone,
Annie and I want to wish each and every one of you best wishes for the holidays. Can’t believe another festive season has arrived so quickly. Of course many of you will have made lots of Christmas gifts. I mean to do more every year and once again have put off til next year several gifts that have been made for me. I mean how much JOY can I spread. Anyone doing Tinners with a Christmas theme will get this joke. I always have lots of projects in the planning stage. Too many! We are really looking forward to the Christmas pot luck. My favourite kind of meal. I was really pleased at the response to last months “sew day”. The “iron challenge” has been in my basement since I was part of the program committee –before Covid. So, best of everything for 2024. -- Joyce Murray, Co-President |

This will be a fun social evening at our traditional Christmas/Holiday pot luck December meeting. POTLUCK We're asking members with surnames beginning with the letters M-Z to bring a dish to share at the potluck. It can be a main course item, appetizer, or dessert - anything you'd like to bring. To help members with dietary sensitivities, please include a list of ingredients for your dish to indicate any contents containing gluten (flour), lactose (dairy products), nuts etc. THIEVING ELVES GIFT EXCHANGE Please bring a "Stash Gift" for the Thieving Elves Gift Exchange. Please bring your gift in a gift bag which can be easily unwrapped and displayed for stealing. The gift should not cost you a thing by shopping from your stash! You can gift a pattern, some fat quarters, a quilting notion or anything from your quilt room that is no longer loved, and you want someone else to enjoy. If you really can’t part with anything of your own, feel free to buy something quilting related. Either way, the value should be no more than $20. Everyone who participates will go home with something and be guaranteed a stealing good time!

Tinners
Just a short note. I will have the names and contact numbers of all participants available to assist you with trading during the winter months. As a last resort you all can trade at my house in Arnprior. I have access to enough different tins. I suggest we set a date (20th) of each month to trade. I will not start whatever tin I have till after the 20th. Of course if you can arrange your own trades that would be best. I am pretty hopeless with email but you can try: joycee.m1946@gmail.com.

Charity
For this years charity project, we are handing out kits with a cheater panel, as well as some coordinating fabric to complete a Twin size quilt top, approximately 60” x 70”. If you can complete the quilt totally, that’s great, otherwise you may hand the top back in , as is. We do have battings cut for each quilt top. Backings are in short supply. To date, we do have a dozen kits that can be picked up at any meeting. The deadline is a year from now, leaving lots of time to finish up.
This picture is an example of how someone finished their top.

November Sew Night
The hall was a hive of activity at our November meeting as teams raced to construct their "iron challenge" 3x4 blocks section for a future charity quilt. There was also a small group preparing kits for other Charity projects.
Thank you Joyce and Marilyn for organizing such a fun and productive evening.

Gift Idea
I recently came across this tutorial for another Potholder from Jacquelynne Steves.
"This little mini-project will take you through the entire quilting process (piecing, making a batting sandwich, quilting, and binding) so it’s perfect for beginners.

Save Your Hangers!
I was just looking at some of my Christmas shopping and saw that there were these clothes hangers that we use in the quilt show. I was thinking that if everybody watched we could save these and use them in our next quilt show.
They are very handy and make hanging the quilts so much easier and faster than the clips.
We'd appreciated if you would keep any of these hangers until our next quilt show in 2025.
