Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild Newsletter - December 2024
President's Message
I am extremely excited to announce that our Co-President, Joyce Murray has returned from the wild west and will be staying home for a while.
We are looking forward to the Christmas gathering on Wednesday. Please search your stash for a gift for a game we will be playing. There are no rules as to what value the gift is to be. Just something that you purchased, but wonder WHY. I know that everyone is feeling a little stressed about Christmas, so let's just have a fun evening.
On behalf of the entire executive, I want to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas.....and Happy Quilting
-- Anne Cruickshank (and Joyce Murray), Co-Presidents

Quilter's Recycling Table
Our Quilter's Recycling Table will be available again in this month! This is an effective way to engage in sustainable quilting practices by bringing or taking items to the Guild’s Quilter’s Recycle Table. It’s a win for everyone! A reminder that if the item you brought is not picked up, you are responsible for taking it back home with you.

We recently received this generous invitation.
We, the Quilt Guild of Renfrew and Area, would like to invite you to attend our Tuesday January 14th meeting. We start our meeting at 1pm at the Horton Community Center but you are welcome to come any time after 12 noon. Phyllis Moody from Mad Moody Quilting Fabrics from Pincourt, Quebec will be our special guest. She will demonstrate some of her favourite quilting tools and have a Pop-up Shop. We will also have some of our members doing different demos.

The Horton Community Center is located at 1005 Castleford Road just outside of Renfrew.
A number of us attended one of their guild meetings last winter and it was a lot of fun. You can see photos and read about that visit in the March 2024 newsletter.

Title: Panel Palooza
“In this informative and entertaining trunk show I'll show you how to take that panel you fell in love with and turn it into something truly unique. You'll experience my good, bad and AH HA moments as I learned how to work with the different styles of panels and how adding interesting block treatments and borders and filling those pesky open spaces with patchwork or appliqué results in a truly special quilt or unexpected project.”

November Guild Meeting
Our November meeting featured a very special guest, our first celebrity guest, Joan O'Malley. An excellent storyteller, Joan told us the fascinating story of how she stepped up at the last minute in 1965 to sew 3 prototypes of the Canadian maple leaf flag in mere hours. Here are a few photos of this very fun evening with Joan.
Here's an excellent article from the Ottawa Citizen which includes much of the information that Joan shared with us.
Editor's Note: There will (eventually) be a Blog post with more photos and information about the November meeting. December is a very busy time!!!
Inspired by the recent English Paper Piecing workshop, Ruth went home from that and worked diligently on her hexi table topper project that she showed us at the November meeting. Well done Ruth!
At Show and Tell Anne showed us this cute quilt for her grandson that she told us about in the November newsletter:
"...I also completed one for my grandson. It took me two quilt retreats to complete, but it is now done and on his bed at my house. My grandson loves quilts from Grandma. He just got a tent for his room and told me that he needs Grandma to make him a new “blanket”. (he is 3) My heart is full…."

Charity
This stunning panel quilt top was dropped off for our Charity initiatives and shown by our Charity co-ordinator Marilyn at our November meeting Show and Tell. We would love to know which very creative guild member made it!

This is a great way to get to know your fellow guild members, to ask questions, learn a new block, a new tip or trick. Last year we saw some lovely photos of the Block of the Month quilts being assembled and finished off, and much more.
Thank you Tina for monitoring and facilitating the activity in this group to provide this wonderful guild initiative!
