Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild Newsletter - March 2020
President's Message
We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation as it evolves in Arnprior and Canada and around the world. These are extraordinary times, and the health and safety of our members and their families are our top priority.
The announcement by the United Church that our hall is closed as part of their response to the virus put the final nail in our decision to cancel the March Meeting.
At this time we think it is best for the health and safety of all of our members and guests and their families to cancel the March Meeting. We do not take this decision lightly, and know that it is in the best interest of our members, guests and their families.
We will of course keep you updated on any future developments. Stay safe and healthy, and most importantly I hope you keep quilting,
-- Frank McCarron, President
A big THANK YOU to our guild members who proudly hung out their quilts on Saturday March 21 to celebrate International Quilting Day. What a great way to brighten up our yards and neighbourhoods! Your photos are terrific and you can see them all on the Blog. Thank you for sending them along. |

I can't recall ever hearing of a quilter being bored! Even mundane tasks like ripping seams, attaching a binding by hand, or hand quilting are satisfying because you're making progress towards a completed quilt. And not everyone sees these example tasks as mundane!
I think we are very fortunate to pursue a hobby (or obsession?!?!) that we can turn to in difficult times like this. And who doesn't have a stash that you'd be happy to bring down a notch or two. So we have some ideas for projects while our guild is temporarily not meeting. Premie Quilts
Have you made one (or more) premie quilts yet this year? These are great projects for using up your stash, for a quick project between bigger projects, or even for a break when you're in the midst of a bigger project. While many community activities are on pause, the little babies needing special care and their families will continue to benefit from these darling little quilts that we provide to the Ottawa Hospital. See the Charity page for more information. |
The Block-of-the-Month for March is this cute Basket block - perfect for spring. And there's still time to make the You Sew Girl block. It makes a lovely pillow as illustrated or a charming wallhanging for your sewing area. Refer to the Block-of-the Month page for details on both of these blocks |
While we can't see your new creations live in person just yet, we would very much like to see what you've been working on since we last saw each other in January. So please send in photos of your completed projects and we'll share them on the Show-and-Tell page. We'd like to see photos of items that you may have already given away, or are planning to soon give away, and those that you'll be bringing to our next real time show-and-tell. We want to see them all!!! And did you know that there are photos on the web site of the quilts that were displayed at our last 3 quilt shows? Click or tap on Our Quilts to see them. |
Saturday April 4 - Big Bag by guild member Johanne Vajda Thursday May 28 - Borders and Bindings by Patti Carey, Vice President, Public Relations for Northcott Fabrics and a pattern designer, who will be our guest at our May 27 guild meeting. Library News
Well, things have certainly changed in the last while and more and more of us are “self-isolating” or at least trying to stay home more. Our sewing rooms are wonderful refuges from stress; a day flies by in no time! And, we do have the Black and White Challenge and the President’s Challenge to complete… and that can be considered quite challenging indeed! I’m sure you all have other projects on the go as well and we can’t wait to see them at Show and Tell when we meet again! I’ll bet there’ll be a long line of us with arms full of wonderful, completed projects. Remember, your Library will be waiting for you when we’re back and it’s full of great ideas and techniques to temp you into yet another new project! Make sure you come and check it out! Until next time, keep safe, keep washing your hands and … KEEP QUILTING!!! -- Lucy and Nancy |
