Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild Newsletter - May 2024
President's Message
What a great meeting in April! It was lovely to see everyone. I think we were all ready to get together and socialize. Thanks to everyone who brought in their show and tell. It is wonderful to see and share in everyone’s achievements. Keep inspiring us! May is filled with many special days…warm spring days, Mother’s day, the May long weekend. Did you know that it is also Mental Health Awareness month? So, take some time for yourself with pampering, relaxing, gardening and of course sewing. You deserve it!
We are still looking for two volunteers to take over the responsibilities of Library and Secretary. It takes many hands to run the Guild. We need someone to step up. Kindly approach Nancy or Betty to find out more about their roles.
Enjoy your time at your sewing machines.
Happy Quilting
-- Co-leaders Anne and Joyce

Tinners
Everyone involved seems to still be enjoying this program. Hope you are among those. So, don’t forget your tin. See you Wednesday. Only one more exchange – unless you would like this to continue. We could do one more over the summer and start over in September.

June Guild Meeting
There will be more information about the June meeting coming later but here's a hint at what's in store!
FREE TABLE
When we visited the Renfrew Guild they had an interesting offering. A FREE table. The idea was you could bring whatever (quilting/sewing only please) that you wanted to give away. Persons could then take whatever they wanted. The only rule was that if no one took your stuff you had to take it back home. We all have stuff (patterns, fabric, tools, books, magazines, etc) that we don’t want or need anymore. This is not to say that we shouldn’t have a garage sale in the future as well. We have decided to try this at our June meeting.

Library
The warm weather is here! My projects are not done yet!! And, the garden is really in need of attention right now, so I will hope for some rainy days to get downstairs and work on my quilting. I guess lots of us have the “inside/outside” conflict right now.
Quite a few of you borrowed books from the Library last month, but I’m still looking for more of you to enjoy all that we have as resources waiting for you. You can even think of these books as “bedtime” reading and take a few home to browse before tucking in. Sometimes they will show a new technique or quilt pattern that you can put on your list of future projects!
We will have our “Guess the Number” contest, again, at this month’s meeting; there are 2 thinner books so you will have to figure out the grand total for your guess!
Hope to see you at the meeting!

Membership
On April 24th we had our first in person meeting for the calendar year. There were 51 members signed in, and 6 guests. The room looked nicely full!! Everyone was happy to reconnect and enjoy the amazing quilting skills of Katrina Kahn, a long time active member of our guild.
We will have online registration opening soon for the upcoming year. The fees will remain at $30 once again. We are giving two free registrations if you renew your current membership for the upcoming year by June 19th. The draws will happen at the meeting.

Barn Quilts!
Vickie MacNabb recently ran a small barn board quilt workshop for 8 ladies who regularly sew together in Fitzroy Harbor. Several of the participants (and Vickie) are members of our guild. Gwen reports: "It was fun and entertaining. It was something on my to do list."
Thank you to Vickie and several of the attendees for sending along photos. The ladies figured this would easier than hauling their "quilts" in for Show and Tell. The barn quilts are awesome!
Vickie has generously offered to repeat this workshop for our guild members.

Workshop Invitation
Our guild recently received this invitation. Are you interested in putting on a workshop?
I am reaching out to you as the event organizer for the First annual Field to Fibre Festival (Sep 29, 2024), hosted by Ottawa Valley Makers and the Beachburg Agricultural Society.
I would like to invite your guild to host a workshop on Saturday, Sep 28, 2024 (the day before). We would promote the workshop and take care of registration. We would reserve a small facility fee to pay for the hall, but pass along the rest of the registration dollars back to your guild to do with as you choose. Is this something that you would be interested in? Tania Bennett Email: fieldtofibrefestival@gmail.com |

This is a great way to get to know your fellow guild members, to ask questions, learn a new block, a new tip or trick. Last year we saw some lovely photos of the Block of the Month quilts being assembled and finished off, and much more.
Thank you Tina for monitoring and facilitating the activity in this group to provide this wonderful guild initiative!
