Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild Newsletter - November 2019
President's Message
Howdy!
It's so great to be back in the midst of "quilting season". I had been away from the cutting table and sewing machine WAY too long. Today was a nice busy day getting pieces cut for the Black & White Challenge. Paulette got hers all made today and I got mine 1/2 way done. We've got the fabric cut out for the President's Challenge (which we'll give back at November meeting). I've planned out my next 3 or 4 quilt projects. Oh it's good to be busy.
In the midst of all this I was reading about a challenge in the US to visit quilt shops. So I started counting back to how many we've been to this year - 25! (and that isn't counting several Fabriclands/Fabricvilles that we've also been to.)
Hope to see you all at the meeting. Our Program committee has some very interesting speakers this year as well as some really interesting demos during our break time. See you there!

November Meeting
Our November meeting is on Wednesday November 27.
Please remember to bring:
There's still time to whip up any of these projects - Air Castle block, placemat, or gift bag! Click the respective Details link for more information. |
Program NotesOur November presenter, Debby Soll on her Sashiko techniques is unable to come due to medical reasons, and has been rescheduled for September 2020. Our speaker will instead be Mr. Bruce Young.
Bruce has been quilting for over 30 years having been introduced to many crafts at an early age by his family. He spent many years in the military then worked for the city of Ottawa and is now retired and crafting full time. He has made over 200 pieces ranging from wall hangings, pillows to every size of bed quilts. Large quilts are his favorite and using reproductions of 1800 prints are his choice of fabric. When Bruce isn't quilting he also does rug hooking and still finds time for 7,000-9,000 km each summer on his bike. I have been assured by others that Bruce is a very interesting speaker. And good support for our President Frank. And....more blue block packages are still available for the Blue Block Party Challenge. -- Joyce Murray, Programs |
Fall Retreat
At the retreat, November 3 - 7, which was attended by 17 ladies at Providence Point in Lanark, a good time was had by all.
We played a game with 2 1/2” strips black and white which were won by Ann Poll and Mary DeVries. There were also door prizes won which were donated by Sew Inspired. It seems that each time we come together for a retreat someone always goes home with a new technique learned or a simpler way to make a block. It seems that we do all get many projects started or completed. We do all enjoy spending this time together. -- Joanna Vlaming, Retreat Coordinator |
CharityWe are happy to announce that we have set some Saturday Charity Sew Days booked at Island View retirement residence in Arnprior for the new year - mark your calendars. The dates are January 11th and February 15th. We will need help with making little touch quilts, charity quilt sandwiching, and new block cutting and packaging. Please bring your "touchy feely" fabric...
We are also asking for help quilting these charity quilts.... does not need to be show quality...hopefully these quirky quilts will bring a smile to a face who probably has forgotten that some people do care. I went down to meet Tracy who was in charge of One Cold Night at the Giant Tiger parking lot in Arnprior. They raised $4300 + for homeless youth in Arnprior. When I explained about our Guild and our charity quilts...she was speechless. Children and Family services will distribute them through the Kenwood center. We are hoping to do this before Christmas. Thanks for helping... Jane and Vickie |
