Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild Newsletter - November 2023
President's Message
Hello fellow members,
Hope you are looking forward to our November meeting which promises to be very interesting.
Remember. The object is to have fun.
And how about our speakers from last month? If you missed that meeting you missed a duzzy. I was so impressed. Stay tuned for December when I hope to have some of my quilts on display.

November Guild Meeting
When? We hope you'll join us on Wednesday November 22 for our next meeting. The meeting begins at 7 PM with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Where? 257 John Street, Arnprior Ontario (Christian Education Centre) Parking is available on the nearby streets. Please do not park in the adjacent church parking lot. Win! The meeting will feature draws for door prizes, a "Guess-the-Number of Pages" library book, and tickets will be sold for draws of a basket of quilting goodies, and 50-50. Show & Tell Do bring along your latest quilted creations for Show & Tell. Always a highlight of our meetings! Eat! Refreshments will be provided. Bring:
We welcome visitors to our meetings for a $5 fee. November Program
This meeting will feature an "Iron Challenge". We plan to put you in teams of 4; a sewer, a cutter, a presser and a pinner. Or you can do whatever. We are supplying the fabric, and a simple pattern which you will have no problem with. Let's see how many 12 1/2" blocks we can finish. I would like to see twelve from each team, put together 3 by 4.
The problem will be that we have a limited number of irons (we don’t want to blow fuses). Please try to limit your need to press. I know this will be difficult for some of you more precise sewers. Please don’t forget your sewing machine or whatever else you agreed to bring. And everyone please bring basic sewing supplies (pins, scissors etc.) Those who would prefer a slower paced evening can instead help prepare kits for Placemats and Fidget quilts for our Charity initiatives. Please bring a cutting mat, ruler and cutter just in case we need more. The material will be supplied. Should be a busy, and fun night! No stress! Have fun. -- Joyce Murray |

Retreat
Plans for our winter quilting retreat are nearly finalized. To date we have 22 quilters signed up.
I am implementing an activity we used in the past and feel it was such a good idea that we are going to do it again. Everyone who attends the retreat must bring her own placemat. Then for every meal you will sit wherever your placemat is situated. We will try to mix them up each meal so hopefully you can sit with someone new every day.
Also I am asking everyone at the retreat to bring three (3) 2 1/2 inch strips wof of your favourite colour for a game.
The dates booked are January 29 to February 2, 2024, at Spruceholme Inn in Fort Colounge, Quebec.
Prices this year are 4 nights - $425, 3 nights - $340, 2 nights - $275.
Spruceholme offers us three meals a day, single bedrooms with bath and a large common room for quilting.
If you can join us this year please let me know at sue78@bell.net.
Also, if you have any questions, please email me.
More info is available on the Retreats page and check out the Blog for information on previous retreats.

Tinners
Thank you to the 12 members who signed up for this program. If you still want to join just bring your tin in to the November meeting and we will add you in. Remember to include a label for your participants to sign, a description of your theme and whatever material you wish. The idea is that everyone can add some of their fabric if they want, or use what you have included in the tin. Can’t wait to see what I get this month.
More information is available on the Tinners page.

Christmas Gift Ideas
We were delighted to receive this great suggestion in our Suggestion Box and it's for members to share their ideas of handmade Christmas gifts. We'll do that at our November meeting, so please bring along any gifts you have made, or items you have received as gifts, and we'll put them on display.
If you have other gift ideas from previous years, please send along any photos and/or pattern names and we'll share those in the coming days. And feel free to post them on our members only Facebook page.
Here are a couple of gift ideas to get this started!

Library News
As everyone knows, Christmas is fast approaching; so I imagine that all of you are madly sewing at your machines (at least most of you!) I keep seeing reminders on Facebook that are quite alarming – “only 7 Mondays until Christmas” and such!! My own projects are piling up and I’m trying to keep my head above water – there’s still lots of time!
The Library received a lovely donation of 2 rulers from one of our generous members; thank you very much. We now have a “Midi Cut A Round" (4in to 12in circle) by Phillips Fiber Art and a package of “Strip Ruching Guides” by Thimble Works for making flowers from fabric or ribbon. Both include instructions. I will have them out on the Library table for you to look at.
We’ll have our last book sale of this year at the November meeting. Thanks to those who have bought books and/or magazines!
The “Guess the Number of Pages” book will be ready for your guesses. Again this month, we’ll have 2 books and also another fat quarter is included. Good luck with your guess!
See you at the meeting - - lots of activities and fun are planned!
