April 2018 Meeting Highlights

Our April meeting was highlighted by guest Jan Kittle's presentation on using rulers when quilting and we also got a sneak peek at her latest pieces which she made for the Common Thread Quilt Show in Ottawa over Mother's Day weekend. 

Jan is the owner of The Pickle Dish shop in Carleton Place and she says "it's wonderful to have a quilt shop under your bed"!

She offered a lot of great advice about quilting with rulers.

• Start with one ruler, try it, learn it, and if you like it, buy more
• Wear gloves to reduce stress on your shoulders
• You can combine rulers with free motion quilting to achieve "whimsy" in your designs
• Check out Angela Walters' videos. See her blog to get started, or check out Youtube.
• The Creative Grids USA web site offers a video of each of their rulers
• Handi Quilter offers a "grippy" product that you can cut into 1" squares to prevent slippage
• Ruler feet are specific to machine manufacturers. Jan made reference to being in "Pfaff-land" and guild member Dona suggested checking with our local Pfaff dealer for details.
