President's Message December 2016

As Christmas approaches, my wish for you is to have time for any last minute projects or handmade gifts that need to be finished.

The guild has been busy this fall and we hope you are enjoying all the activities. We will be busy in the coming year as well with more activities and our spring quilt show. I would encourage everyone to enter at least one quilt in the show. We'll be showcasing all the president's challenge quilts in red and white as well.

I had a few larger projects which are now out the door and I can re-focus on my own projects. I have some fun little kits that are calling.

Enjoy your time with family and friends this holiday season.

Nancy Jossinet's Santa

Patchwork Illusion Workshop

On Saturday November 26th, some of us had the pleasure of seeing Paul Leger again for a workshop. This 3-D block looked very challenging and that was the reason most of us took the class. Paul made the process easy with the help of specialty rulers and his easy going teaching. He was very helpful with advice and he coached us through a relaxed and fun day. The class was very pleased with the results as we were able to get a block or two done by the end of the day.

November Meeting Highlights

Christmas Stockings

Colourful Christmas stockings

We reached our ambitious goal of making 250 Christmas stockings for the Arnprior and District Food Bank! The stockings will be stuffed and distributed with the Christmas parcels.

Volunteer Joan Kelly of the CWL (Catholic Women's League) accepted the stockings on behalf of the food bank.

CQA Big Quilt Bee

Pieces of the Canada 150 fabrics were distributed for making the slab blocks for the Canadian Quilters' Associations Big Quilt Bee quilts for Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada. This project is in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday in 2017.

Refer to the CQA web site for more information, including photos of sample blocks and instructions for the blocks using a “slab block pattern” compliments of Cheryl Arkison.

Nancy Jossinet Trunk Show

Our guest speaker Nancy Jossinet thoroughly entertained and inspired us wtih her story of her quilting journey, her lovely quilts, her many tips, and her parting words "Follow your journey, try new things, decide what makes you happy". A self confessed "tool person", with a passion for applique, Nancy has tried many different techniques "Some I liked and some I never tried again".

Nancy's trunk show featured her quilts over the years and included a number of Christmas pieces, including the whimsical Santa pictured here, traditional quilts, a block-of-the-month quilt depicting the history of Lanark County where she lives, and a unique 3 panel Japanese lady quilt.
