September 2017 Meeting Highlights

Our 2017-2018 guild season kicked off with lots of information about this year's exciting and creative challenges, a new decorative stitch exchange, and the opportunities to contribute important charity projects.

We enjoyed a fascinating and inspiring presentation by Krista Zaleski, a local creative pattern designer, and long arm quilter. Krista took us along her quilting journey from her first quilt to her latest modern designs.

An engineer by training, Krista applies her technical knowledge, precision, and attention to detail in her pattern designs. She often sees a pattern that she's inspired by and then produces a unique pattern of her own.

Her quilts range from somewhat traditional to very modern and they often feature bright colours.

With a strong aversion to applique, Krista will go to great lengths to create a pieced pattern for her designs. This sometimes requires multiple iterations of a pattern and a corresponding new quilt top for each iteration. Her "Tumbling Down" quilt pictured below is an example of a quilt that she pieced. An applique version of some patterns is available  to satisfy her customer preferences.
